Here are 5 simple things you can do to get a better night’s sleep.

 Turn off phone before bed

  1. De-Geek the Room

Consider making your bedroom a technology-free zone, so you associate the room with relaxation and sleep. Charge your phones, tablets, and laptops in a different room, since the very presence of these items can put you on edge or draw you into checking your email and social media. You may even want to go the extra mile and remove the television from your bedroom, or keep it covered behind the doors of an entertainment centre.

  1. Feathers, Coils, Foam, or Gel?

A quality mattress is one of those things you may want to invest in. A mattress that lacks adequate support or comfort can cause all sorts of stress, pain, and sleep issues. Try out different mattresses and ask around to find out what type of mattress is best for your age, gender, and body type. If you feel that a certain quality mattress is slightly out of your price range, many furniture stores offer financing plans.

  1. Exercise

Perhaps part of the reason your nights are lacking sleep is because you may need more exercise during the day. Regular exercise can decrease stress levels, and physical activity will strengthen the natural circadian rhythm of your body, which promotes sleep at night and activity by day. If youíre not the active type, at least consider going for a daily walk or bike.

  1. Stimulation...or Lack Thereof

Hobbies can take away some of your stress and provide you with mental stimulation. If you’re lying in bed and counting bills instead of sheep, consider picking up an enjoyable hobby, or rekindling your love of an old one, in order to provide you with something else to think about other than work. Alternatively, if you have too much going on, you may be over-stimulated, and need to cut back or reschedule events, within your ability to do so.

  1. Bedtime Routine

Create a routine around bedtime, almost like what you would do with a young child. Find activities that help you to calm down, such as taking a shower, meditating, drawing, or reading. Start your routine at a predictable time every night (as often as possible) so you can actually train your body to get ready for sleep.

Bonus Tip:

Having a light meal before bedtime can significantly contribute to better quality sleep. When we consume heavy or large meals close to bedtime, our bodies have to work harder to digest the food, which can disrupt our sleep. My go to meal is GaiaMeal smoothie. If I come home late and I know that I need to hit the bed early I mix 2 scoops of GaiaMeal with cold water or plant based milk and have that before bed. Sweet dreams...

Remember, the key is consistency and patience. Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither is a healthy sleep routine. Experiment with different strategies, listen to your body, and make adjustments along the way. With dedication and perseverance, you'll be well on your way to enjoying the full benefits of quality sleep.

We hope the tips shared in this article serve as your guiding light towards a more restful slumber. Sleep is a precious gift you give yourself each night, so prioritize it and reap the countless rewards it offers. Embrace the journey, take care of your sleep hygiene, and embark on a path to better sleep tonight.

Wishing you nights filled with tranquility, mornings brimming with vitality, and a life fuelled by the power of quality sleep. Sleep soundly, dear reader!
